She has also won at the Llangollen
International Eisteddfod and for a number of years was an invited
soloist for the opening ceremony at that event.
She has travelled abroad as a guest soloist with
different choirs and playing the harp with a youth orchestra.
Having won most of the national prizes at the eisteddfod
not only as a soloist but also as a duet and a part of a cerdd dant
trio, she turned her talents to conducting and training.
Whilst studying Welsh at Bangor University she
conducted several student choirs to success at national events.
She married in 1992 and began on her career as
a primary school teacher. Her school choirs regularly win at national
level as do many of her private pupils.
She has now two daughters – one eleven years
of age and the other is eight. Because of family commitments she
is now a part time peripatetic Welsh and music teacher.
Nia has grade eight qualifications in piano, harp
and voice as well as an honours degree from Bangor College, University
of Wales.
She enjoys arranging traditional music, and has
composed some vocal pieces for children.
During the past few years Nia has been adjudicating
at local and national levels as well as appearing as an expert during
the eisteddfodau on Welsh television and radio.
Though she does not compete as a soloist now, she
still enjoys performing at concerts and on musical television programmes
as well as singing with the choir.
